What I played in February

So many games and so little time! So far I’ve been really enjoying delving through the depths of my backlog in the search of new games! But in the shortest month of the year would I pack in as many as January?

First Class Trouble 4/10

Tired of Among Us but still want to lie and cause absolute murder? First Class Trouble is the game for you. Free on psnplus, this is a fun cross between Cluedo and Gmod where the saboteurs must confuse, sabotage and “remove” the passengers in order to achieve their goals. Microphone chat is strongly recommended despite the toxicity for the game to be more than just a meme fest. Playing this with friends was super enjoyable at first especially with the ragdoll physics and multiple means of murder, available on both sides. However, after a few sessions of playing, it became apparent how one sided the game is with multiple ways of winning for saboteurs and an insane number of hoops to jump through for passengers. Overall it was a short trip through the cosmos; fun at first but quickly came to an end.

Overwatch 6/10

Going on the fifth year I’ve been playing this game, Overwatch is still enjoyable with the lively crew of characters, addictive playstyles and simple but super gamemodes. Pretty much everything about this game has already been said and the amount of polish still shines out to this day. Unfortunately, in the shadow of Overwatch 2, the predecessor has become a little bit stale. The lack of new gamemodes, cosmetics, heroes and maps are meaning that the game is stagnating so fans are slowly but surely leaving for brighter pixelated pastures. This may be the last year that the original has in it. Hopefully the sequel can live up to the high expectations set by the original.

Deep Rock Galactic 6/10

Psnplus has been killing it this month! Why go intergalactic when you can go underground and mine into your latest adventure? As one of four classes, explore the caverns, collect materials and slay monsters with unique weapons and utilise your skillset for the good of your team. Beauty is everywhere but with an edge of suspense not knowing what will be through the other side of the cavern wall. Though the game can be repetitive and some classes feel considerably more enjoyable than others, there’s plenty of fun to be had fighting off enemy swarms and drinking a few pints on the ship with your pals afterwards.

RWBY Grimm Eclipse 5/10

It’s so much fun being able to enjoy the gameplay of the four femmes of Beacon. The combat is smooth, the fights are enjoyable, the animations replicate iconic moments of the anime and the playstyles seem pretty well thought out. The art style replicates the animation’s and the voice lines by the original voice actors make for an authentic spinoff. The game certainly looks the part. Unfortunately, the gameplay throughout is somewhat lacking.

Gameplay quickly becomes repetitive with limited enemies and similar combos across characters. The level trees are a nice idea but familiar upgrades and a cap on skills means the huntresses can’t achieve their full potential. Not to mention their flimsiness that promotes a tactic of continual retreats. The online looked promising but so few people are playing that it’s not likely one player would find company. Overall, though design is really strong and similar to the animation, it’s nothing to write home about. Red cape, no weapon.

Pokemon Go 5/10

Another oldie but goodie. Pokemon Go has stood the test of time as one of the most popular and successful mobile games with a strong base of players still to this day! Since it’s boom in 2016, the game has had a plethora of updates from the pesky Team Rocket grunts to over seven generations of new Pokemon. Similarly to Overwatch it feels a little stale at this point but after a short break I find myself still logging on and looking for Pokestops to spin.
