Are you an FPS lover wandering around the realms of free games for a fun event with a snappy LTM? Then you’ve come to the right place! Respawn are ending this season with a BANG! POW! WHAM! in this three week event. Of course where there’s an event there’s some equally snappy skins to match. But just how do they fare up against each other?
Gibraltar Ring Leader 5/5
Bashing through the doors of the event store comes this incredible Gibraltar skin, the best of his so far! He’s gone from cute bear to dom bull in this steel and leather biker/bull wrangler inspired skin! Now Gibrlatar has had looks along the same lines as this before, namely in the Aftermarket event. Despite that, this looks new, impressive and ready to throw down a beat down! The tone is set with the darker clothing elements of the skin. The leather chaps, dark jeans, star lined open vest, metal corset and even the little neon lights on his back all put this in Southern USA biker territory. The slicked back hair and open muscley chest are sexy and body positive in a different way than usual for him while portraying him as someone not to be messed with! This is all well and good but the metal elements on top not only reinforce his fortified style but also give that high fashion edge. The tie in to Cattle makes so much sense with that unmovable impression. The golden horns on his back apparatus shine amongst everything else and matching the main feature of the skin- the Bull Head shield. The detail on this is impressive and the gold trophy-like quality really shows him as a wealthy champion of the South! The dark mask with the little horseshoe is really the final element that puts this head, shoulder, horns and hooves above the rest. This is a fabulous all-American skin sure to drive-thru the competition.
Pathfinder Down Right Fierce 5/5 vs Revenant Seeing Red 3/5
The names say it all. After a disappointing lack of cosmetics during the Genesis Collection Event, Respawn held a robotic boxing match for the two systematic sons themselves. These skins are giving hero vs. villain vibes. In one corner, the happy naïve Pathfinder is the underdog hero with the lighter colour scheme, shining metallic plates and anime tiger face in his chest. The Kuwagata and the rope alludes to Samurai and the honour he holds heroicly in battle. In the other corner, Revenant is the clear villain in his much more threatening reds and purples and lightning bolts cascading across the skin. The mismatched styling of this skin is unsettling to the opposition. The top half is very typical robo-wrestling boxer from the movies with the oversized circular joins and chest plate. Meanwhile the traditional lamé boxing shorts are very classic while the skeletal face gives this zombie idea, as if some sort of reanimated boxing star of days past. Many fans have pointed out a disturbing resemblance in the face between Revenant and a certain four armed Star Wars villain. Of course the hood over the face creates mystery while the rope over the head but lack of Kuwagata may suggest a lack of loyalty, as if a wondering warrior. In a one-on-one battle, it’s clear who the winner will be. Revenant might be able to Death Totem himself a duplicate skin but right now it’s Pathfinder grappling ahead with this stunner! TKO to the O.G. Robo!
Mirage Chuckles the Barrelman 4/5
Though it’s a recolour of the Mirage skin for the Halloween event, it’s definitely a great improvement. While the last was a little costumey, this one is much more thematic and stylish, despite Mirage being painted as a literal circus clown. The overdrawn white eyes and mouth and signature red nose immediately set the tone. The change of outfit to this much more primary colour based palette suits the light-hearted idea. The yellow undershirt, blue denim jacket and jeans and that sparkly red fringe over the shoulder really lightens up what was a kinda drab costume bag skin. The metallic knee pads have that shiny quality that the other new skins have this event and therefore match. The cow-hide chaps match the face and finish up the skin nicely. The overall effect is one of a toy, like a certain animated one that was best friends with an astronaut. The child-friendly quality of this skin sets this apart from the others while also suiting his comedic character nicely. The only thing is… why this one? The redo is effective but what a random choice! Either way, I’m not joking when I say these changes made have really put a Mirage over my eyes!
Rampart Wastelander 3/5
A legendary for the free tracker? That’s more like it! Rampart is finally getting the love she deserves this season with a second legendary skin. The Battle Pass skin was a welcome departure but this one is much more in her wheelhouse… or garage if you like! This is giving Mad Max Mechanic realness and suits her badass/tomboyish style. This is suitably rough around the edges. Most of the skin is dark and dusty, especially the work pants. The armour is minimal in the chest piece, the one shoulder pad and the one knee guard. Her mechanical occupation comes through in her work belt harness and welding goggles while the chest armour resembling scrap metal and the literal tyre around the neck have that make-shift feeling that matches the post-apocalyptic vibe. This would all be a little drab if not for the pop of red fabric beneath the chest plate, the green in the knee cap and of course the signature huge pink bubble that she chews out when idling.
Bangalore Lethal Enforcer 1/5
This is a decent referee skin just in time for the Euros. The stripy style with the pops of yellow means she can’t be missed. The Apex logo for that official feel is nice but the referee label is a little literal. In the Apex Arena where anything goes there’s little need of a referee.
What a way to finish off one of the most ambitious seasons of Apex! Enjoy this article? There’s another one right along the clothes rail! To match the store cosmetics, I’m compiling a collection of Summer skins from years past so that you know exactly the ones to put on your legends! Give me a follow and you’ll know exactly when it drops!
