“New Season, New Me,” said Revenant, about jump off the dropship. Fourteen seasons later and the infamous death totem is no more, replaced with an arsenal of new abilities. Luckily, his stylish skins haven’t had the same treatment. Let’s see if his launch skins still hold up and if this new addition and redesign fit in with his older legendary skins.

Revenant 2.0

A new lick of paint to match his new playstyle and abilities. This redesign has similar elements to the original: Colour scheme’s similar, the silhouette is skeletal and the hooded features still frame the face. However, the changes are noticeable enough that the player understands his stronger form. For instance, the crimson has turned to a bolder red and the bandana has made way for a black hood. It does the job of a redesign very well. However, I honestly think the original looked better. This new Revenant looks very plain with most of the red ripped away for grey, plain plating. The helmet looks bald now though admittedly, I’m not devastated that the bandana has gone. It’s a good redesign but an average outfit. Better get a skin to dress it up a bit.

Penumbra 3/5

It’s shiny and sparkly but still a bit spooky. This skin gleams in Revenant’s repertoire with those metallic purple and golds, pretty different to anything he’s had before. The skeletal idea shines through with the skull helmet, showing spine and boney-looking mechanic arms specifically for pouncing across the battlefield! It’s not necessarily my favourite considering that it’s quite minimal and the colour combination isn’t super complimentary but it reinforces his new silhouette and the new look Respawn are going for.

Unholy Beast 4/5

A creature from the forbidden forest came to feast on some prey. This was the OG Revenant skin that every player had in season 4 and honestly it still holds up. The hair is unique to this skin. It’s behind the head, below the head and under the torso like moss or the gruff of a goat. The palette of the skin is light which is fine because you’re not admiring the body. You’re staring into that mask. It’s impeccable with substantially sized horns and a tribal mask styled to that of a goat. It’s all very creepy and feels like this alone could change the genre of the game. Still affordable and still affable.

Shadow on the Sun 3/5

Then there’s this skin which has been forgotten through time. In an Egyptian theme, referential to the God of the Sun, Horus; this skin is bright in the gold accents over the pitch black drapings. The bird-like helmet is a little lost here because there’s so much detail below. It’s an interesting idea but not incredibly impactful. Affordable as well though so don’t rule it out if you want to try him out.

Overall, I’d say that the new skins don’t match the originals. He had great skins before, some of the best in the game, and the events following his launch really built on that. Unfortunately, his new look isn’t as exciting but let’s give him some time. This new design could make room for further lore and redefine Revenant’s character. Give him a try! See what you think!
