Skinsational Apex Legends Heirlooms

How could this series go on for so long and not touch on the most infamous cosmetic item in the game? Most players will only ever get one heirloom in their Apex Legends career. (Unless they’re going to whip out some cash!) If perchance you do manage to obtain the Heirloom fragments and have not been drooling over main’s since it was released into the game, let’s review your options!

Bloodhound’s Raven’s Bite 4/5

The most infamous heirloom on the list from the first collection event in the game. An axe for the intergallactic hunter with a crow’s head chiselled into it is a very stylish item and suitable selection. There’s a subtle red glow to the sharpened edge that sparks lightning every now and then. Otherwise, it’s understated but effective. Hopefully it’s gets some more animations soon!

Gibraltar’s War Club 3/5

It wasn’t a great match for the Fight Night event and it’s not a great fit for Gibraltar either. As mentioned in the Fight Night review, it’s completely disproportionate to his armour. Unequipping his shield for this tiny war axe just doesn’t make logical sense. The shield tech dripping from it is a really cool touch and the amber colour as it’s been newly forged suits his style. In a way it’s tribal like many of his skins. It’s just very predictable and for the price it could’ve been a little more battle-ready.

Lifeline’s Shock Sticks 3/5

They’re not so much shock sticks as they are mildly impressed sticks. Again, this was early in the game’s life, during the first Halloween event, so it’s simplistic without many animations. However, it’s personalised and matches her musicality as displayed in her emotes and it isn’t as typical as a healing staff, injection needle or some form of psychedelic gas that doctor designs are usually assigned. The graffiti tags slapped down the sides stand out and suit her poppy banners and bright character. The electricity ties in with DOC and her other medicinal apparatus so they can fight even more co-ordinately. They’re not overly cumbersome which suits her low profile and they’re a cool choice for any long time fans.

Pathfinder’s Boxing Gloves 4/5

They pack a punch that’s for sure! At first when this heirloom came out it didn’t make a huge amount of sense. If anything Pathfinder was known for vantage rather than a head on fight. But after the lore video preceding the Fight Night Event and his own personal boxing ring on Olympus, everything falls into place. The gloves are comically big while the emotive electronics and big, bold BOOMs give that slapstick touch. Players have complained that they’re a little too big. But do you want functionality or style? At least you’ll have something to blame all those misfires on!

Wraith’s Kunai 3/5

An anime blade for her anime run. A kunai dipped in void tech to send her opponents into another dimension. The blade is small and functional which suits her petit profile. It’s dark and mysterious which suits her personality. Once again, being the first heirloom in the game before any collection event, it’s lacking a lot having only just been given some animations. Nevertheless it’s a suitable and stylish for a character that will probably always be useful.

Bangalore’s Cold Steel 3/5

More like cold reception! A controversial change at the time after the change from a tonfa to yet another blade. Regardless, it’s a sharp look and I’m not just talking about that serrated edge. The bend is interesting and different while the bright yellow glow means opponents will certainly see it coming! The animations of the sharpening is interesting and that rough and ready look matches the character to a tee. It may not be as impressive as what could’ve been but let’s just celebrate it for what it is.

Caustic’s Death Hammer 5/5

It’s the gas. That’s all that can be said. By far the best heirloom on this list from design to suitability to animations in one. From the aftermarket event paired with yet another clown skin, this was no joke. A solid gold that reflected Caustic’s weight. An emitter of toxic gas like Caustic’s barrels. And that face. Oh, that eerie green-eyed glowing face. It stares deeply into your soul and says, ‘Buy me! Pick me!’ I don’t play Caustic but should I? Maybe I should. Wait. Where am I?

Mirage’s Too Much Witt 5/5

Witty, a good fitty and not at all…done poorly. It would’ve been easy to give Mirage something too jokey or too serious but Respawn nicely straddled the line with a custom award for the self-proclaimed comedian. This is pure Mirage. The cheesy grin, the cheap-looking gold, the tongue-in-cheek plaque on the front, the fact that literal fireworks come out of it. It’s narcessistic while being not quite perfect which is kinda why we like Mirage in the first place. The award goes to…

You! For finishing this post. There’s so many more so of course there will be a part two! What is your favourite heirloom? Let me know in a response below!
