Horizon really has been welcomed into this season with a plethora of new skins of varying themes and prices. But which ones are worth getting in these final days of the season and which are completely past caring for?

7. Absolute Zero 1/5

This is a very basic recolour that I’ve touched on in the Christmas review. The epic pattern is just a basic falling snowflake pattern and can barely be seen beneath her armour. The blue hair looks more aquatic than snowy. It’s free and of a high rarity but not a skin that’s going to stand out in a collection.

6. Flux Capacity 2/5

This skin is good for a rare. It’s shiny and catches the eye with the bright colour scheme of white and metallic blue and gold. The armour is a bit bulkier so she doesn’t look as slender but more fortified. She has a blue guard around her face, looking a little like a circuit board, in theme with her background. Her goggles are red which seems like a strange choice and I don’t like the change in hair colour to black. This is part of a bundle that comes with Apex coins for a pretty low price! There are better options further down but if you like shiny skins for a respectable price, this is for you.

5. Copper Constellation 3/5

The season pass skin. Arguably one of the best rare season pass skins to date? Despite it’s name, the majority of this skin is actually a dull blue. The bronze embellishments over the top are pretty sparing but together gives the bronze theme that allows this skin to stand out from the rest. The choice of bronze itself over the usual gold is interesting. It’s still eye catching with that metallic shine but it’s less common and connotes a sense of practicality and hard work. The hair is blah again but it works better with the pale face and black lip. Rather than a cop out as some rare battle pass skins are it’s actually a realised look that works for the battle pass.

4. Inverse Polarity 3/5

It’s a late Halloween look! This was the Twitch Prime Gaming skin so for anyone that has the subscription it’s a free bonus. This is simple yet effective. The black suit creates a dark canvas on which the white bones can stand out. There’s an illusion of her looking even more slender than before. Literally skin and bones. The makeup sets the whole thing off. The contoured cheeks further her skintiness. The tiny pops of cyan add more interest while still showing her original character in the colour. This will become more rare over time but why wait? It looks so good now!

3. Neon Stardust 3/5

This is a very daring skin to put into the game for a brand new legend! This shows an edgy side to the conventional Mother/Scientist character of Horizon. The hair sets the tone immediately as this pink Mohawk with shaved sides. The sports bra and plastic jacket continue this idea while the use of this shiny pink material calls back to this idea of a 90’s raver. The square goggles allude to the idea of sunglasses which furthers the idea although the triangle earring is a bit more 80’s. The teal that compliments this makes the colour scheme vapourwave-esque. This is gothic, sporty, raver, retro and it’s a good pickup that shows a completely new and exciting side to her character!

2. Terra Nova 4/5

This skin suits Horizon’s personality better than any other. It’s more practical harkening back to more traditional forms of armour. It’s the least flashy with head-to-toe browns and slivers of silver. The armour is pretty classic from the chest plate to arm guards all in undecorated iron. The leather straps over the top add colour and interest in their placements but moreso a practicality. The thick dotted fabric beneath offers another form of practical protection. All of these elements go back to traditional elements of armour, potentially medieval. The goggles on her head lack lenses and seem more for protection. This looks like something used by someone in ironworks in medieval days which relates to her similar role in Respawn’s futuristic universe. The emblem in the middle is interesting. It’s a star that could represent a guild that she works for while referencing her affiliation with the stars. It’s nice to see her brown curly hair similar to that of her base skin relating back to her Scottish origin. Overall, I’m getting a whole medieval armoury storyline from this look while it still seems fitting for her character. It’s one of the cheaper options on this list so definitely worth a look.

1. Dark Matter 4/5

Talk about a transformation! This is probably the skin that I’ve seen most in game since her release for very good reason! This is edgy in a different way- in a dark scientist who took part in a ritual to be abducted by an alien cult while accidently becoming one of them way. From past reviews, we know this colour scheme works. It connotes darkness while the red being so minimal shows some hidden malice. The hair and shiny shoulder pads that match are look strange yet fashionable in the styling. Otherworldly and unconventional! The amour on this is light and sparse over the top of a grey bodysuit, which provides a little nude illusion. She’s able to stay slender while protected as her body is full covered. This lightweight and alien-esque skin is the best she has to offer so far. It’s striking and pretty fashion forward. So if lightweight alien looks are your thing, make space for this skin!

It’s good to see new legends get enough support to be up to speed with the other heroes in the game skin wise. Especially with how meta this legend has been. There’s just enough skins here to make your Horizon stand out from the others.
